Oregon’s fastest-growing city sits at 3,600 ft with the Cascades as a backdrop. Bend is Central Oregon’s cultural, culinary, and outdoor recreation capital — a city that genuinely has it all. World-class skiing 35 minutes away, 22 miles of river trail through town, and more craft breweries per capita than almost anywhere in the country.
A 3,300-acre master-planned resort community built for the best version of vacation life. Thirty miles of paved bike paths, three golf courses, the Deschutes River winding through the property, and an observatory that rivals university facilities. Sunriver is where Oregon comes to unwind.
One of Oregon’s most photographed small towns — a preserved 1880s Western Main Street set against the dramatic backdrop of three volcanic peaks. Sisters punches above its weight with galleries, boutiques, world-class folk music, and access to the Metolius River and Three Sisters Wilderness.
The practical heart of Central Oregon — home to the region’s main airport, the Dry Canyon trail system, and a downtown that’s in the middle of a compelling revival. Redmond is 15 minutes from Bend, 15 minutes from Smith Rock, and increasingly its own destination.
Where Central Oregon gets truly wild. La Pine is the launching point for Newberry National Volcanic Monument, Paulina Lake, East Lake, and miles of the Deschutes National Forest. This is fishing, hunting, mountain biking, and off-grid adventure country — raw, beautiful, and unhurried.
High desert lake life at its finest. Lake Billy Chinook — tucked inside Cove Palisades State Park — is one of Oregon’s most spectacular boating destinations, with three river arms and canyon walls rising hundreds of feet above the water. Madras also has some of the best stargazing in the state.
Crook County’s authentic ranching heart, surrounded by the Ochoco National Forest and the wild Crooked River. Prineville is beloved by rock hounds, anglers, and anyone seeking Central Oregon without the crowds. The Steins Pillar hike and Prineville Reservoir are local treasures.
Five minutes from the front gates of Smith Rock State Park — one of the most photographed landscapes in America and the birthplace of U.S. sport climbing. Smith Rock draws over a million visitors annually to its 600+ climbing routes, 8 miles of hiking trails, and Crooked River canyon views.
